After our meetings with the students, we went to Kroo Bay--the worst slums in Freetown. I wanted to see it. I'm praying that it will someday be the gem of West Africa--evidence of God brining his kingdom to bear here. It will take a 100,000 miracles--maybe more. All I know is that right now heaven can't be happy with the material poverty and the insecurity felt everywhere here in Sierra Leone.
We hung around Lincoln's house last night, trying to stay cool on his little porch. As the mosquitoes gathered, I was happy I had anti-malaria medicine in my system--a privilege few folks here have.
Chip and I are now in the airport for our first of long waits for flights. Five hours here--five hours in Nigeria--seven in Frankfurt...anxious to get home for a shower, for cool nights, for coffee, for family, for friends. Chip and I understand better why Jesus sent them out two bu two. Doing this together made it doable.
